Senate amends National Health Insurance law following Buhari’s observation

The Senate, on Wednesday, amended the Nationwide Health and fitness Insurance coverage Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Monthly bill, 2021.

The laws was handed by the Nationwide Assembly in April final 12 months.

The Senate Chief, Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), sponsored the movement for the re-committal.

The Deputy Leader, Ajayi Boroffice, read the lead discussion on behalf of the Senate Leader.

He recalled that the National Assembly transmitted the handed invoice to the President, Significant Common Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for assent on April 23, 2020.

He observed that the President, soon after critical assessment of the bill, elevated some elementary challenges, which according to him, required clean legislative action to clauses 20, 24(2) and 25(2)(c).

Boroffice stated that the selection of the National Assembly to amend the bill was in line with the require to address all observations lifted by the President.

Accordingly, the upper chamber deleted clause 20 of the invoice, which presents for 3rd party administrator.

It also amended the provisions of clause 24(2) on the implementation of the Fundamental Wellbeing Treatment Fund.

The amended clause reads, “For the function of subsection (1), the Authority shall put into practice the Simple Wellness Treatment Provision Fund as set out in the National Health and fitness Act, 2014, and any rules created in that regard.”

The Senate also amended the provisions of clause 25 by deleting clause 25(c) on the Establishment and Resources of the Vulnerable Group Fund.

The higher chamber introduced a new clause to substitute the deleted a single.

The new clause supplies for “Special Intervention Money allotted by Authorities and appropriated by the Nationwide Assembly” as a supply for the Vulnerable Team Fund.

The modification was proposed by the Chairman of the Wellbeing Committee (Secondary and Tertiary), Yahaya Oloriegbe (Kwara Central), and seconded by Sadiq Umar Suleiman (Kwara North).
